3rd Birthday Race Track Cake

I thought I would show the steps for this #3 race track cake. I first baked an 11x15 inch sheet cake. Then I made a template for the #3 out of freezer paper, laid it over the cake, and carved out the shape. I then wrapped and froze the cake to make it easier to ice. (carved cake is terribly difficult to ice w/o freezing it first) Next was a crumb coat and then I let it sit for a while to thaw and also let the icing set. I then put the final coat of icing and applied all the fondant accents.
The track, as well as the start and finish boxes are marshmallow fondant. The yellow is buttercream icing.
The name is also made from fondant. Then, at customer's request, I added Hot Wheels cars that the birthday boy can keep later.
I love this cake...it was truly fun to put together!! And quite a change from all the girly cakes I am used to making!

Flowers and Hummingbird

Happy Birthday, Maw Maw! My husband's grandma celebrated a birthday on the 16th. She loves hummingbirds...since I was short on time, I used a faux hummingbird with fondant flowers on a 9" 2-layer cake.

Elmo Birthday Cake

Here is Elmo's debut on my blog. Not as precise as I would have liked, but okay for a first try. It is a 10 inch 2-layer cake, iced in buttercream with fondant accents. Elmo is piped in buttercream as well. The customer also requested a matching smash cake for the birthday boy.

Birthday Cakes

This past weekend, I made two different birthday cakes. The first one was a simple 11x15" sheet cake iced in buttercream with fondant accents to match the party invitation.

The second was carved in the shape of the number 2. It also was iced in buttercream with lots of fondant accents.

Pink & Brown Cupcake Cake

Oh my goodness...this cake is my new favorite! It was for a first birthday party with a cupcake theme. It is a two tier cake...the bottom tier is a 2-layer 10 inch cake, and the top layer is several 8 inch layers carved to look like a cupcake. It is iced in buttercream with fondant stripes, polka dots, lettering and bow. SO MUCH FUN!!! Oh, and there is a matching smash cake for the sweet little birthday girl!!
