3rd Birthday Race Track Cake
I thought I would show the steps for this #3 race track cake. I first baked an 11x15 inch sheet cake. Then I made a template for the #3 out of freezer paper, laid it over the cake, and carved out the shape. I then wrapped and froze the cake to make it easier to ice. (carved cake is terribly difficult to ice w/o freezing it first) Next was a crumb coat and then I let it sit for a while to thaw and also let the icing set. I then put the final coat of icing and applied all the fondant accents.
The track, as well as the start and finish boxes are marshmallow fondant. The yellow is buttercream icing.
The name is also made from fondant. Then, at customer's request, I added Hot Wheels cars that the birthday boy can keep later.
I love this cake...it was truly fun to put together!! And quite a change from all the girly cakes I am used to making!
